Reasons for Introduction

Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

When the Masters of Multimedia by coursework was established, IMS4401 Developing Multimedia Systems was a core unit, resourced by the School of Information Management and Systems. With the establishment of the School of Multimedia Systems at Berwick, SIMS is no longer responsibile for servicing IMS4401, consequently a new unit needs to be established to provide this content in the core of the program. The unit is proposed as a level 5 unit, rather than level 4 or level 9. The content is new to candidates who do not have multimedia undergraduate qualifications, it will be taught with Masters level content, rather than with "accelerated" undergraduate content.Successful development of multimedia systems requires an understanding of appropriate areas for application of the technology, and requires a development approach, development skills and a range of participants unlike those used for any other form of information system. This unit will explore some of the key issues in multimedia systems development practice and the application of multimedia systems to meet business needs.
