FIT9013 Computer programming 2 - disestablished (30 Nov 2017, 2:39pm) [ PROGRAMMING 2 (29 Oct 2009, 6:20pm)]

Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (22 Jun 2009, 5:02pm)

FIT9013 is equivalent to FIT2034. (FIT2034 is a core unit in the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems for the Applications Development and Networks major). FIT9013 replaces GCO9808 which was equivalent to GCO1812 (which was replaced by FIT1007, which was then replaced by FIT2034).

Reasons for Change (30 Nov 2017, 2:39pm)

This unit has been updated as part of a 2009 review and comparison of data with current Handbook, Syllabus + and Callista data.

30/11/2017 - Unit disestablished at FEC 5/17 Item 7.3.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (29 Oct 2009, 6:20pm)

This is a foundation unit for the Master of Applied Information Technology (MAIT) and Graduate Certificate students. It is equivalent to FIT1007, which is a first year unit of study. Knowledge of programming is a fundamental activity underlying all computer systems.

This unit follows on from FIT9008, which teaches introductory programming consistent with the faculty core unit FIT1002 Computer Programming. This unit continues the introduction to software development and software engineering begun in the faculty core unit Computer Programming, using the Java programming language to illustrate more advanced object-oriented concepts and techniques and more data structures. It gives students practice in using these concepts and techniques to design, develop and test larger and more complicated programs. This in turn prepares students to go on to the unit (GCO3512, GCO9807), which provides a more in-depth study on data structures and algorithms.

Synopsis (29 Oct 2009, 6:20pm)

Following on from FIT9008, this unit introduces more advanced object-oriented programming topics than its prerequisite, such as inheritance and polymorphism. It gives students a deeper understanding of programming and data structures by introducing recursion and dynamic data structures. It also gives more practical skills in designing, building and testing larger computer programs, including ones having graphical user interfaces, and utilising file I/O. Modern software tools to support programming activities of testing and group-based development are also demonstrated.
