FIT5182 Decision support systems research internship - disestablished (07 Dec 2017, 11:14am) [DSS RESEARCH INTERN (10 May 2010, 3:41pm)]

Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (11 May 2010, 3:42pm)

The option of high performing students undertaking a minor thesis in the professional masters program has been recently removed. Students who wish to attempt a minor thesis and progress to a higher degree by research must now do so through the masters honours programs. There is a remaining cohort of high performing students that are interested in the possibility of research but have not progressed to the stage that they will commit to a 24-point honours project. They may commit to a 12 point internship where they work with experienced researchers.

Reasons for Change (07 Dec 2017, 11:14am)

BoE 1/2012 identified that the entry requirement for this unit was not consistent with comparable types of units, e.g. reading units and need to be aligned with those. Reading units etc that have a variable assessment schedule generally require ADE approval. This has been rectified in the present amendment. Amendment to take effect Semester 1, 2013.

07/12/2017 - Unit disestablished at FEC 5/17 Item 7.3.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (13 May 2010, 10:52am)

FIT5182 adds to the Business Intelligence specialization in the MBIS program. Its role is to provide an avenue for high performing coursework students to experience being part of a research project. Students who complete FIT5182 and other relevant methods units may progress to further research study.

Objectives

Objectives (11 May 2010, 3:39pm)

At the completion of this unit students will:

  • have developed capabilities to undertake research in the decision support systems field;
  • have learned a particular research method and gained mastery of the application of some aspect of the method;
  • be able to communicate their role and contribution to a DSS research project.
