A new unit in the Business Systems track of the MBIS course

Reasons for Change (07 Dec 2017, 11:18am)

7 January 2013: There was a substantial student request in the last set of student feedback that we change from weekly 1 hr lab to weekly 2 hr lab. This has also been requested by the incoming new (Clayton I.T.) Head of School. This is effective from now and 1st Semester 2013. The 2 hr lab/week is (more specifically) one 2-hr class which is 1 hr tute, 1 hr lab.

21 May, 2013 - Revised pre-requisites to cater for transition arrangements in relation to the introduction of the new version of the MBIS in 2014.

18/7/13 - Amendment to prerequisites, effective Semester 1 2014.

11/9/13 - On advice from Director Education Quality and on behalf of CE corrected minor typographical errors under Objectives.

07/12/2017 - Unit disestablished at FEC 5/17 Item 7.3.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (29 Oct 2009, 6:19pm)

This unit provides an understanding of the business value of customer relationship management and how data mining technology can be used to improve organisational interaction with customers. Building a business around the customer relationship is the aspiration of many modern organisations. Customer relationship management and data mining has been combined together to provide the required concepts, techniques, technology and tools to achieve this goal. The unit discuss how IT and IT based techniques can be used for customer segmentation, clustering and classification, market basket analysis and association rule mining in addition to traditional CRM.

Together with FIT5157, FIT5159 and FIT5160, this unit makes up the Business Systems Track in the Master of Business Information Systems (MBIS). The goal of the Business Systems professional track is to provide students with essential skills required by the current day business analyst. Depending on their qualifications and experience prior to graduate study and the nature of their elective study, graduates could be employed in a variety of roles ranging from business systems analyst, systems analyst, and functional analyst through to senior management and management advisory roles.

The modern Business IT graduate/postgraduates is very likely to encounter CRM as well as data mining as they enter the workforce. This unit equips these graduates with the skills necessary to be immediately useful.
