This unit has been updated as part of a 2009 review and comparison of data with current Handbook, Syllabus + and Callista data.

1/2/2013 Unit has been completely redeveloped in order to cater to student demand for more relevant/up to date content, such as Android and iOS development. To be implemented for S1, 2013. This unit differs from FIT2081 in that it investigates all aspects of mobile applications development including data management, audio, graphics, cameras, interface design, gesture interfaces and GPS use. This unit will cover iOS as well as Android development.

7/2/2014 Unit has been updated to have a 100% in-semester assessment from Semester 1, 2014 as the unit focuses on the development of practical applications and is best assessed through the design and implementation of working applications.

19/11/2020: Admin - this unit was disestablished at FEC 5/20 on 12/11/2020 as it is no longer required.

This unit is an optional foundation unit in the Master of Applied Information Technology (MAIT). Providing skills in the area of Android and iOS development is relevant for MAIT students. The unit provides practical skills in the apps development area as well as an overview of the history and importance of apps in mobile computing.

This unit is co-taught with FIT3027, however the assessment requirements differ in the following ways:

• FIT4039 will require demonstration of additional research, development, and critical analysis skills within the unit assessment.
• Projects will require FIT4039 students to undertake research and implementation of advanced functionalities including additional critical analysis of mobile technologies and techniques.

This unit focuses on the design, construction and deployment of mobile applications, with particular focus on Android and iOS platforms. Areas such as mobile data management and networking, MVC design patterns, and mobile GUI design considerations will be explored. The unit will emphasise hands-on, practical experience with actual devices and emulators. Research topics and ideas will also be covered for post-graduate students.
