Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (11 Jun 2018, 8:51pm)

FIT3167 is a core unit in the Mobile Systems major offered in South Africa only. This unit will be offered for the first time in 2019.

Reasons for Change (19 Nov 2020, 12:08pm)

21 June 2018. Revising Learning Outcomes on behalf of CE to AQF standards as original ones were low level objectives Johan sent revised Learning outcomes and requested to add in Monatar.

24/9/19: Admin - updating the exam duration to include additional 10 minutes as per University requirement.

4/5/2020: As the MSA course 4307 Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences is in teach-out, the MSA offering of this unit has been re-coded to FZA3167 effective Semester 2, 2020. These units will be managed by South Africa and therefore no separate Monatar entries will be made

07/10/2020 Admin: Update to include new assessment and teaching approach fields as per Handbook requirements.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (11 Jun 2018, 8:52pm)

FIT3167 is a core unit in the Mobile Systems major. Mobile devices have outgrown the PC market, while the knowledge and skills required to understand mobiles differ extensively enough to warrant a unit that specializes in this domain. This unit will be an advanced unit that will cover important concepts in more depth, as well as integrate knowledge and skills acquired through the other units of the major.

Objectives

Objectives (21 Jun 2018, 09:14am)

  1. Explain and apply advanced concepts related to mobile data, content storage, management, networking and interfaces to mobile systems
  2. Integrate knowledge and skills related to mobile standards, networks, data management, and pervasive and ubiquitous computing in designing mobile system solutions
  3. Demonstrate solutions and selection of appropriate tools to solve various challenges of wireless communications, such as mobility, security, quality of service, resource allocation, interference, inter-operability, spectrum management
  4. Explain advanced concepts of the Internet of Things
  5. Propose applications and design mobile systems that implement concepts of the Internet of Things
