This is a 3rd year elective unit in the BITS. It is on the elective schedule for students interested in obtaining accreditation from ALIA or RMAA or ASA. It aims to prepare students for professional practice in business information, knowledge and content management and appreciate the role of the modern ICT in achieving efficient strategies for managing personal and organisational knowledge.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (29 Oct 2009, 6:16pm)

This unit is one of the elective units needed for professional recognition purposes with ALIA, RMAA and ASA, and is part of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems (BITS). It is co-taught with FIT5088 and draws on topic areas previously covered in IMS3012 and IMS3611.

This unit address the aim of the Faculty to produce skilled information and knowledge management (IKM) professionals, including information and knowledge managers, information architects, information policy developers, information project managers and information consultants for business and government organisations. This unit is within the Faculty's research strength related to COSI.

This unit provides students with skills and knowledge relating to the use of latest technologies for managing knowledge, electronic documents and records to meet the needs of individuals, work groups and organisations. The unit aims to build a general understanding of technologies for managing personal and organisational structured and unstructured information and knowledge and the methods of developing systems to handle it. Students study the business context, requirements analysis techniques and implementation issues for electronic document management, recordkeeping, content and other information and knowledge management systems.
