FIT3012 Enterprise systems - disestablished (30 Nov 2017, 3:18pm) [ ENT SYS (26 May 2005, 11:49am)]

Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (19 Nov 2009, 10:40am)

FIT3012 Enterprise systems is introduced as a new unit for the Bachelor of Business Information Systems (BBIS) at Clayton campus.

Specifically, FIT3012 will be a core unit of the Enterprise Systems and e-business stream in Bachelor of Business Information Systems (Coursework and IBL) at Clayton campus.

One objective of the Bachelor of Business Information Systems, is to familiarise students with existing dominant enterprise resource planning systems technologies. Such familiarity boosts the immediate productivity of students entering the work place and is particularly critical for Industry Based Learning students who enter the workplace before graduation.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) represents a broad set of activities supported by a multi-module application software that helps an organisation manage its business, including production or service planning, purchasing, maintaining inventories, interacting with suppliers (or customers), providing customer service, and tracking orders. ERP systems integrate inventory data with financial, sales, and human resources data, allowing organisations to price their products, produce financial statements, and manage resources.

Many of the larger corporations (including most of our IBL partners) have implemented ERP systems. These corporations employ many of our graduates on completion of their studies.

Reasons for Change (30 Nov 2017, 3:18pm)

Sunway has been added as a location of offering following the noting of a new general BITS at the Sunway campus in 2010 (refer to UGPC 5/09, item 5.1). This change requires urgent approval, for implementation Semester 1, 2010.

30/11/2017 - Unit disestablished at FEC 5/17 Item 7.3.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (29 Oct 2009, 6:14pm)

This is a third level core unit of the e-Business ERP stream in Bachelor of Business Information Systems (BBIS). Together with FIT2006, this unit aims to provide students with enough knowledge to enter the ERP/Process Design and Management workforce, as well as undertake advanced study/research in these areas.

The unit responds to the present demand in the local and international market for IT professionals with ERP knowledge. Working as an IT professional in modern organisations, our graduates require organisational and technological skills. This unit equips graduates with an understanding of integrated business processes and the required technological skills to support such processes. In addition, the unit provides a sound theoretical foundation upon which research activities in the ERP and Process Management fields can be based.

Synopsis (29 Oct 2009, 6:14pm)

This unit provides both a theoretical and practical overview of Enterprise Systems. Enterprise Systems are configurable information systems packages that integrate information and information-based processes within and across functional areas in an organisation. Topics include systems and technology background, ES evolution, ES lifecycle, implementation and configuration, ES and electronic commerce and ES success and failure factors. The theoretical component will be augmented by detailed case studies which focus on problems faced by real-life companies. For the practical component, laboratory exercises using a well-known Enterprise System will be used to deepen student understanding.
