This unit is intended for students in the Business and other non-computing Faculties It gives students concepts and principles of database technology including logical and physical design, data modelling, normalisation, security, Business rules, implementation planning, recovery, security and DMBS capabilities. The unit is aimed at providing graduating students with some knowledge and understanding of the capabilities of database technology in a Business environment

Semester 1 and 2 tutorials are of 1 hour duration.

Laboratory Requirements (09 Aug 2007, 1:24pm)

Semesters 1 and 2: Computer laboratories for 1 hour per week for 13 weeks with Oracle and MS-Office access. 1 tutor per laboratory session and available for the students self study period. Summer Semester; Computer laboratories for 2 hours per day for 9 days with Oracle and MS-Office access. Tutors to be available for all laboratory sessions and also for student self study periods.

CSE1720 or BUS1010 or ETX1000 or ETX1010 or equivalent, plus at least 18 points of any second or third year units in any discipline area
