Reasons for Introduction

Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

This unit is offered as a third year elective in the Bachelor of Network Computing. Networking, together with distributed software systems, is an essential technology for the discipline of Network Computing. TCP/IP, the most prominent networking protocol suite, forms the basis of the Internet. The Bachelor of Networking Computing, offered by the School, currently has "CPE1007 (previously listed as CPE2002) Data Communications and Networks" as a core unit. The primary objective of CPE1007/CPE2002 is to expose students to the theoretical foundations of data communications and networks. This unit (CPE3004 Internetworking) is offered as a third-year elective. It will complement CPE1007/CPE2002 in that it will go more deeply into the technical aspects of TCP/IP. Students will have an opportunity to understand thoroughly the implementation details of the TCP/IP suite, and the underlying design principles of the suite. They will also have an opportunity to study recent technological advances in TCP/IP and the underlying networking protocols; including the wireless ones.
