This unit is an elective in the Master of Business Systems and one of the units of the Electronic Commerce specialisation of Master of Business Systems Professional.

BUS5700 Integrated Business Systems -SAP R/3, Applied eBusiness B2B and Electronic Commerce B2C are the major components of Electronic Commerce specilisation of Master of Business Systems Professional.

This unit is designed to provide students with an overview of the application of integrated process engineering. The unit provides an overview of different requirements for a successful implementation of inter and intra-organizational systems. BUS5700 uses different modules of SAP R/3 package to analyse integration and ARIS tool set in practical sessions.

Some initial discussion will provide background, context and motivation for a more thorough examination of integrated business systems. In order to extend and deepen the discussion of the later type of system the market leader in this area, SAP R3, will be introduced.

The discussion of SAP R3 will have two benefits. The most immediate will be the acquisition of specific SAP R3 user and developer skills. At the same time students should accrue a detailed appreciation of the underlying business processes being performed. The examination of SAP R3 from a user's perspective will proceed along two complementary fronts. First, the functionality of existing application modules (financial, logistical, human resources and workflow) will be detailed. Second, a walkthrough of the most common business processes as they are implemented across several application modules in SAP R3 will be conducted.

The subject will end with a discussion of planning and implementation issues involved in developing and installing an integrated business system.

This unit provides students with an overview of Enterprise Systems and is designed to describe the role of enterprise systems as part of the larger IT infrastructure of large scale organisations. The emphasis is on re-engineering business processes in an organization through the adoption of enterprise systems. SAP R/3 will be used to introduce students to the complexity of enterprise wide systems through tutorial workshops where appropriate. This will include the addition of process modelling software tasks in practical sessions using ARIS toolset (SAP R/3 reference model).
